Fanney Khan Movie Review
Fanney Khan is a musical drama written as well as directed by Atul Manjrekar, who is making his debut with the movie. It is a remake of the Oscar nominated Belgian film “Everybody’s famous!”. The cast includes Anil Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Rajkummar Rao, Divya Dutta and Pihu Sand in the main roles.
The film is essentially a story of a taxi driver Fanney (Anil Kapoor) who has a talent for singing but due to the circumstances, he never got to chase his dream of becoming a popular singer. As a middle class father, he vigorously hopes to live his dream through his daughter Lata (Pihu Sand), who he named after singer Lata Mangeshkar. Lata is a young aspiring singer who is constantly trying to make her mark through musical shows, but is always ridiculed and body shamed due to her weight. As a result of her frustration, she is often seen being ill-tempered with her father.
When Fanney got laid off at work, he got desperate to make his daughter a successful singer. And in his quest to see his daughter succeed, he kidnaps a famous singer Baby Singh (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) with the help of Adhir (Rajkummar Rao) demanding that Lata be heard on a music show else he will kill Baby.
Atul has beautifully captured the emotions of all the characters. They are vulnerable and speak to the audience on a deeper level. Music given by Amit Trivedi is very upbeat and fits well with the mood of the film. “Tere jaisa tu” song by Monali Thakur is heart touching. Aishwarya looks mesmerising as ever in role of singing diva.
Divya Dutta as a mother looks natural and convincing. Rajkummar Rao has played his part sincerely. The show stopper here is Anil Kapoor who has given a top notch performance as a father who is ready to go to any limits for the success of his child.
